Company profile

In 2001, ESCA was the first Italian company to market ready-made frozen fish sauces, creating a new product category in which it is still a leader today.

In 1956, Cav. Luigi Patrizi developed the industrial processing of frozen fish by introducing innovative industrial techniques, which led to the foundation of ESCA in 1968. Today, with its legal headquarters located in S. Benedetto del Tronto (AP) at via Morosini, 19, and its industrial and manufacturing facility in Controguerra (TE) at via Piane Tronto 68, the company has been operating for over 50 years in the sector of production, packaging, preservation, and trade of frozen seafood products.

ESCA has always been a pioneering company in its sector, consistently seeking production efficiency and product quality. Since 1968, the company has been recognized as the first Italian industry to produce frozen fish product trays for the Organized Large Distribution of that time.

Innovation has continually driven the company’s development, and in the following years, bolstered by the trust and respect of various retail players, it introduced a revolutionary vacuum packaging with a "skin" effect in 1997. Later, in 2021, it began marketing a completely new product in the retail landscape of the time: ready-made frozen fish sauces.

Even today, thanks to the quality of the product and the infallible production efficiency, ESCA remains a leader in the Italian market with its line of ready-made sauces, Condipresto, a product category created in the early 2000s.

Today, operations are carried out at the plant in Controguerra (TE) which is authorized and identified with the recognition mark IT 465 CE. It is located on a plot of land owned covering a total area of 56,970 square meters, with an approximately 27,000 square meter covered area, including:

12,566 square meters designated for production, technological and service rooms

9,754 square meters designated for refrigerated warehouses

2,600 square meters designated for packaging storage

2,080 square meters designated for offices.

Not only is production efficiency and product quality defined as the cornerstones of ESCA, but research and food safety also represent very important areas to which the company dedicates itself with passion. In the research laboratory, new products are continuously developed to meet the needs of a constantly evolving market. An ongoing effort to find the best recipes and highest quality raw materials is carried out to provide only the best to consumers who have appreciated the undisputed quality of the product for years.

Food safety is ensured by systematic controls applied throughout the processing chain. A specialized team of quality personnel constantly monitors the food safety of the ingredients and the final product that is packaged daily.

Thanks to the products from the "CONDIPRESTO" line, it is possible to create a seaside restaurant experience right at home. These new specialties, already prepared for cooking, are made with a careful selection of the best raw materials sourced from various parts of the world and are paired with a flavorful and unmistakable seasoning. This makes the products unique, special, and easy to prepare, guaranteeing absolute success in the kitchen.

The products from Esca srl offer consumers the natural goodness of fresh fish, combined with the convenience and safety of frozen products, all packaged in an original box with a window that highlights the quality and authenticity of the product at first glance.

If you love the delightful flavors of the sea, Condipresto products are the simplest way to prepare a delicious fish dish.

Our Co-packers

The careful selection of raw materials and the numerous certifications regarding the quality of the food production process make Esca the choice of many leading brands of hypermarkets, supermarkets, and discount stores, for which products are supplied under private labels.

Respect for the environment: a priority

In recent years, respect and safeguarding of environmental resources have become the new focus of the company, which has always operated with an awareness of environmental issues. The sensitivity and attention of the company towards environmental matters have led management to invest significant resources in renewable energy, through the development/acquisition over the years of photovoltaic systems that supply part of the company's energy needs. This is an inexhaustible source of energy produced in a clean, safe, and silent manner, substantially contributing to environmental protection by reducing carbon dioxide emissions in the atmosphere.

The currently installed nominal power is a total of 2,172 kWp, with an annual energy production of over 1,300,000.00 kWh, which represents 27% of the company's energy demand, and with a self-consumption rate of approximately 82% of the medium voltage electricity production.

ESCA: Guaranteed and Certified Quality

Esca adopts a self-control system according to the HACCP method based on the principles of the Codex Alimentarius, with rigorous quality controls throughout the entire production chain, from the acceptance of raw materials to microbiological and chemical analyses of the final product. These activities are supported by a quality management system integrated with product certification in compliance with BRC Grade AA and IFS Higher Level standards regarding food safety, as well as the MSC/ASC standard related to sustainable fishing supply chains, contributing to the protection of the oceans. With MSC/ASC certifications, Esca implements an automated monitoring system to track the entire journey of each ingredient in accordance with the regulations of EC Regulation 178/2002.

The analytical tests of raw materials, semi-finished products, and finished products are carried out by Accredia-certified laboratories according to officially approved procedures and in compliance with an analytical sampling plan defined annually based on an assessment that considers the origin, risk of contamination, the average annual consumption of each individual item, and especially the historical results of previous sampling.

ESCA: Gluten-Free Products

The products of the “I Condipresto” line, ready-made sauces to be consumed after cooking, are labeled with the wording "Gluten-Free" and can therefore be considered as a source of suitable foods for individuals with celiac disease. This is because not only is the absence of ingredients derived from gluten-containing grains guaranteed, but also the absence of potential sources of contamination during the production process.

Job Safety

Any action aimed at improving health and safety is not an obstacle but a valid investment. Esca recognizes the importance of protecting the health and safety of its employees, consumers, and surrounding communities through accident prevention and the mitigation of potential harmful effects. Esca srl has adopted a certified organizational management model based on prevention rather than protective measures and regulations. In this way, occupational risks to which workers may be exposed are eliminated or, if possible, minimized.

It is therefore a management system aimed at promoting preventive safety, risk control, and continuous performance improvement through the effective application of a functional and organizational scheme, which includes discipline and management of applicable legal regulations as a prerequisite.

The company adopts the Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS) in accordance with the international standard BS OHSAS 18001:2007 and the UNI-INAIL 2001 guidelines certified by Certiquality Milan, subsequently updated to the new version UNI EN ISO 45001:2018.

Esca has decided to make this effort as it recognizes the importance and significance of these aspects in workplace prevention and the production cycle. With knowledge and commitment, Esca srl always guarantees consumers a product that complies with legal requirements and regulations, ensuring the highest level of food safety throughout the entire production chain. ESCA is committed to reciprocating the prestigious certification obtained with full transparency and trust, along with all obligations and requests to ensure the best quality and control in every aspect.
